Google Business Profile Basics for Reiki, Yoga, and Healing Studios

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a potential client sees. Here is how to optimize it so your healing practice appears when people search locally.

When someone in your city searches "reiki near me" or "sound bath [your city]," your Google Business Profile is what determines whether they find you. It is often the first impression a potential client has of your practice — before they ever visit your website.

Most healing businesses have a Google Business Profile. Most of them are incomplete, outdated, or optimized for the wrong things. Here is how to fix that.

The Basics: What Every Profile Needs

  • A complete and accurate business name, address, and phone number
  • Your correct business category (choose the most specific one available)
  • A compelling business description that includes your key services and location
  • Your actual business hours, including special hours for holidays
  • A link to your booking page, not just your homepage
  • At least 10 high-quality photos of your space, your work, and yourself

The Category Choice That Most Businesses Get Wrong

Google Business Profile allows you to choose a primary category and several secondary categories. Most healing businesses choose something generic like "Health and Wellness" when more specific categories are available — "Reiki Therapist," "Yoga Studio," "Meditation Center," "Sound Healing Therapist." The more specific your category, the more likely you are to appear in relevant searches.

Reviews: The Most Powerful Local SEO Signal

Google uses the quantity and quality of your reviews as a major ranking signal for local searches. A practice with 50 reviews will almost always outrank a practice with 5 reviews, even if the 5-review practice has a better website.

The most effective way to get more reviews is simply to ask — directly, personally, immediately after a session when the experience is fresh. A text message with a direct link to your review page removes all friction and dramatically increases the response rate.

Google Posts: The Underused Feature

Google Posts allow you to share updates, events, and offers directly on your Business Profile. They appear in search results and can significantly increase click-through rates. Most healing businesses never use them. Posting once a week — an upcoming event, a seasonal offer, a piece of educational content — keeps your profile active and signals to Google that your business is current.
